Please Pray…

Just got word this morning that a fine young man in our Canadian Forces has been seriously injured in Afghanistan. Please join us in praying for him. Details you need to know:
  • Cpl. Brian Pinksen (20 yrs old).
  • (based here in Gagetown, and part of Evangel’s family)
  • On foot patrol when an IED exploded, seriously wounding Brian and a fellow soldier.
I spoke with his home church this morning, and the prognosis is for a long recovery from these serious injuries.

Can’t Get You Out of My Mind

My kids introduced me to this dumb song, and it’s just one of those songs that sticks in your brain. Whenever they want to drive me closer to the brink of insanity, they’ll start singing it, and that dumb song just rolls around in my head the rest of the day. (If you clicked the link above, maybe you’ll agree?)

We just got back from vacation, and it was a blast. I’m feeling refreshed and ready for the fall. I try to shut down over vacation, and spend time and attention exclusively on my family, but I could never fully get the congregation I serve out of my head. I prayed for Evangel. Thought about Evangel. Bounced some ideas and strategies off of my friends about what the next season holds for Evangel. It was nice to be away, but the miles on the highway did not produce miles in the heart. I love Evangel, and the city of Fredericton. I love the people, the kids, the seniors, the young adults, the families of all shapes and sizes. I love the deacons. I love their heart for the Kingdom.

Many times throughout these past two weeks, I’d find myself thinking about Evangel. I didn’t have to work at it–it just happened. Similar to that song (but far more valuable), Evangel is something I just can’t get out of my mind.

Without a doubt we are in for a season of growth and change. To get to where we’ve never been we need to do some things we’ve never done. I realize that the mere mention of “change” scares some people to death, but that’s okay. It will be alright. We’ll just feel a pinch…so take a deep breath and get ready for what’s next.

Here’s something to remember: no matter what you’re facing, and no matter what’s going on, God can’t get you out of His mind, either.

Here’s proof.

“…I will not forget you…” Isaiah 49:15 TNIV

Evangel News – August 8

It was a good morning with the Evangel family today!

Finished up our “elements” series with a message on the Holy Spirit. Excited about the “You Asked for It” series in September…don’t forget to send in your questions/topic suggestions! Just email it to info@evangelnb.ca.

Got some heavy hitters coming in to preach while we’re on vacation: Sheldon MacLeod (15th) and Richard Bragdon (22nd) are going to give you the Good Word, and you don’t want to miss either week! I appreciate their ministries and their willingness to help us get away.

Have you jumped on the Give Every Day train yet? Our fellowship has invited every congregation to take part in this initiative to give just one dollar each day for missions. The beauty of this is that, if every adult joined in for even just a year, we would raise an additional $30 million to spread the Good News of Jesus across the globe! It’s easy–Give Every Day.

While you’re picking up school supplies, purchase some extras and bring them to our morning service on August 29th. We’ll be delivering them to neighbourhood schools that need them. Also, pray about getting involved in our Park Street School outreach. You can change lives!

We’ll be thinking of and praying for you guys while we’re on vacation. See you soon!

Camp Evangeline 2010

Our daughter arrived home safe and sound from another year of Youth Camp in Debert, Nova Scotia. It was great to see her, and on the nearly-two-hour drive home, she bubbled and laughed and talked loudly about all the things that happened this week.

There were crazy games.

Good counselors.

Pizza.

Hot showers (a camp first!).

Friends old and new.

And something else…

Listening to her talk about that was nice, but I couldn’t stop smiling as she told about the services and how God used the speakers to impact her life. There were powerful times at the tabernacle altar, opportunities to seek God and intercede for her friends. An exceptional speaker that God used to make His truth stick to my girl’s heart.

That’s just one reason why I think summer camp is so important. That’s just one reason why I think reaching students is a priority for the local church. You can change the world, one life at a time.

Give Every Day

Our fellowship has launched a new awareness campaign called Give Every Day.

The challenge is to change our thinking. To step into a new way of living. To embrace a new mindset. To make a difference.

It’s easy, and here’s the power of it all…

If every adult attending a PAOC congregation gave $1 dollar every day, we would raise an astonishing $60 million in additional missions funding.

That translates into more people reached. More lives saved. More pastors trained. More congregations planted in unreached areas of the world.

Simply put, it will result in the population of heaven increasing.

Join us. Give Every Day.

Evangel Newsflash 7/23/2010

We’ve been seeing increased traffic on our new church website, and it’s quickly becoming the primary way people are staying up to date on what’s happening here at Evangel.

There are a couple of things I want to tell you about:

  1. Teen Challenge Atlantic will be with us this weekend. You won’t want to miss the stories of how God is still changing lives!
  2. I realize next week is a long weekend (New Brunswick Day) but we’ve got something amazing going on! We’ll be holding a baptism in the St. John River! If you’ve never been baptized in water and want to take that step of obedience, check out the information about it posted on our website.

Spread the word, and spread the Word!

Evangel is back Online!

It’s taken awhile, but we’re finally live–www.evangelnb.ca hit the world wide web this week! Hope you find it worth the wait.

We’re planning to make our website…

  • the front door for people new to Evangel. Check us out online and get a feel for who we are and where we’re going.
  • a bulletin board for what’s going on at Evangel. Schedules, special events, opportunities to get involved and make a difference in Fredericton and the world…you’ll find it here.
  • a resource of helpful Bible teaching and encouragement for everyday life.

HUGE thanks to the people who made it possible:

I highly recommend them to you. Give them a call and see how they can help you with your website.

Monday Mind-dump

Awesome weekend! Here are a few random thoughts rolling around in my head…

  • Enjoyed a great time with Evangel yesterday! What an awesome church!!
  • Been thinking about community impact the last couple of days. Love Fredericton is coming next month, and I’m excited about the impact it will make when the Church hits the streets June 11-13. We’re using this as a launch pad for continued community involvement,  examining ways we can be good news in our neighbourhood. Stay tuned.
  • It felt like we were getting some pushback during the morning gathering. I’m sure the devil doesn’t want the people of God waking up, getting honest with God and each other, and seeing Fredericton transformed.
  • I’m so tired I can hardly see straight! A long string of evenings this past week and I know I need a slower day. So…I’m laying low today.
  • Needing some wisdom for a couple of decisions, and would appreciate your prayers.
  • I’ve really enjoyed our corporate time in Judges. I know, I know, it’s a weird book for the subject of a Sunday PM Bible study, but the fact is, it is highly beneficial to anyone wanting to serve God in difficult time. Next week, Judges 17. We’ll get a terrible glimpse of life that’s pushed God aside…
  • I have the privilege of speaking to Middle Schoolers this week about India, and I need your prayers!
  • Random quote: ‘If you want to be a leader, stop talking about what you do and start talking about what you see.’
  • Had a great evening with some of Evangel’s young adults. Some sharp minds there.
  • Cleaned out a load of junk this weekend–you’d be amazed at what we found! But you won’t find it anymore!!

Going to curl up with a book now…

Dirty Laundry

Everyone’s had to deal with dirty laundry. You wear clothes? You’ll get dirty laundry.

There are ways to handle it, some good & some not so good.

What about dirty laundry that isn’t clothes? Do you have some stinky stuff lying on your floor of your heart that you need to get cleaned up?

I’ve met people who think dirty laundry is something that you should never talk about. Just plug your nose, roll up your sleeves and take care of it behind closed doors.

If there is any place in the community where it should be okay to take care of dirty laundry, shouldn’t it be the Church?

This month at Evangel we’re talking about how to handle dirty laundry. We might have a few moments when it smells like a Middle School gym class, but we’ll learn some methods for taking the dirty laundry of our lives to the Cleaner.

This Sunday? The Dirty Laundry of Disobedience. Here’s a primer.
